Mustafapaşa is architecturally the most interesting of Cappadocian towns, and this is an Ottoman dream-palace re-created in lavish style in two of the town’s finest historic houses. All the details of a proper pasha’s residence are there. You have a glassed köşk - a garden pavilion - where you can take your coffee reclining on the round-about divans. There is a Turkish hamam complete with scrub-wielding professional attendants. There is even a rose garden in the best Ottoman tradition (the name actually means "Rose Mansions"). Other details, like the fine collection of 19th century engravings, or the mirror lounge with fireplace, suggest a European touch. A pasha who went to school in England? The common rooms are on a generous scale that one associates with much larger hotels. Combined with the small number of private rooms this gives the place a somewhat formal feel. The well-groomed professional staff adds to the atmosphere of efficient impersonality.
